I was part of the VAD team responsible for recreating the MET in New York for the LED volume, both interior and exterior, including a fully working fountain which would be built inside the volume, allowing the creative team to plan set construction and shot angles for the volume. I was responsible for modeling and texturing a number of the props and set dressing assets for the exterior, including hot dog carts, street signs and lights, and multiple small props such as benches and banners. I was also partly responsible for optimizing the exterior scene to ensure it would run at speed on the volume.
For the interior, we had to completely recreate the real interior of the museum using a handful of photos and scans from a location scout. This included faithfully recreating all of the architecture, including balconies, the overhead skylight, and several side rooms, as well as all of the artworks and displays occupying the space, many of which involved the extraction, cleanup, and texturing of the pieces from location scans. It was a massive undertaking for the team, and I think the results speak for themselves.
Note: these assets were later sent to ILM's content team to recreate the final, volume-ready sets.
