Medusa's Cavern

This was one of the more intensive sets, going through many different concepts and iterations, from an overgrown outdoor statue garden which stretched to the horizon, to a massive underground cavern with pillars the size of skyscrapers, to the final version seen on screen. By the time we reached the final version, there was a whole team of talented artists creating new versions of the set from scratch with a two-day turnover.

In some of the early versions, I used Unreal's landscape tools to create large landscapes which could be quickly modified, including spline-based rivers, as well as dressing the sets with foliage, stalagmites, and lots and lots of statues.

For the final version, I created a spline Blueprint to allow the quick creation and modification of the tunnel, as well as a Blueprint which allowed for the quick placement of either ground or wall-mounted braziers and adjustments to their heights, plus the ability to turn the braziers on and off.

Note: these assets were later sent to ILM's content team to recreate the final, volume-ready sets.
